"Word is Bond captures a moment in every Black queer emcee's life when he has opted to struggle with the compulsory and restrictive demands of compulsory heteronormativity and hypermasculinity, or spit truth to power. There are undoubtedly rappers today who still struggle with whether or not to spit authentically, for fear of Hip Hop's restrictive glass ceiling."
